The SNES was one of the most popular gaming systems of all time for the accessibility it brought countless gamers, as well as the improved graphics over the 8-bit Nintendo. While the glory days of Super Nintendo games may be over, there are still a few die-hard collectors in the world who enjoy their systems by playing these timeless classics over and over again, with many of them citing these games as being their favorite games, even with top consoles such as the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 dominating the hardcore gaming market.

Even though the Wii has enjoyed some measure of success, many hardcore Nintendo fans feel as if Nintendo has left them to their own devices by ignoring the standard in gaming controlling in favor of more gimmicky motion controls. According to the SNES Games Guide site, his is one reason many collector’s cite the need to collect older Nintendo games, since the new direction Nintendo is taking with the consoles seems to be a more causal approach than what many people are used to. In fact, cartridges are a dying breed when it comes to gaming, with the only true cartridge system that is left on the market belonging to the Nintendo DS.

Collectible Nintendo games are usually those that saw limited release on their console, or are fan favorites that now have a cult following. A good example of this is Chrono Trigger, which fetches a hefty price on eBay when a cartridge is put up for sale. This is not because they are particularly rare, but because gamers enjoy having the original medium the game was made available on, despite it now being available as a DS release as well.

Other examples of classic games that were enjoyed on the SNES console that enter into many gamer’s collections today are The Legend of Zelda series, the Mega Man series, and the Donky Kong Series of games.
