Netbooks and tablets are both making a splash in the current portable gadget industry. If you want portable internet access, you may be considering one of these two computers. Both are generally equipped with the ability to connect to wireless internet as long as you have access. However, they are radically different and it is important that you understand that.

Netbooks are just mini laptops. They open and close like a laptop, which protects the screen and keyboard. The screen is on the top and the keyboard on bottom, just like a laptop. The battery chargers, then you can run it away from a plug, just like a laptop. The size of the screen and keyboard are much smaller than that of a laptop, and the computing is less advanced. It is not as powerful of a machine as a laptop, but it is getting there.

Tablets are one big screen. It will lay flat on your laptop table stand. They have no keyboard and no mouse. It is a touch screen, so it is like your finger acts as the mouse and you drag it across the screen. You can also use the touch pad keyboard, but it is not as easy as a standard keyboard. This will be fun for surfing the internet, but if you are planning on getting office work done, you will find that the tablet’s interface is more cumbersome. It is fun to use, but not the most practical. Also, it is more prone to damage to the screen, which can destroy the whole thing. The only option you will  have will be to replace the screen, which can be quite expensive.

You need to be honest with yourself when choosing between a tablet and a netbook. A tablet is a lot of fun to play with, but if you are planning on getting work done, it just won’t be practical. If you really will just be using it to play games or surf the net, it might work. At the same time, a netbook will work just as well and often costs less, sometime you can get these mini laptops for under $300. The choice ultimately is yours.
